Why I Started Western Mass Rehab Group: Bringing Care Back to the Person

When I founded Western Mass Rehab Group, it wasn’t because I wanted to build a bigger business—it was because I wanted to build a better experience. One that feels human. One that makes room for the whole person, not just a diagnosis or a checklist.

Over the years as an occupational therapist, I’ve seen how easy it is for healthcare to become rushed—appointments squeezed into short time slots, people asked to travel when traveling is the hardest part, and goals reduced to numbers that don’t always reflect real life. I started this practice to bring care back to where it belongs: in the home, in the routine, and in the relationship.

Why in-home therapy matters

Home is where life happens. It’s where you get dressed, make coffee, manage medications, climb the stairs, and try to keep doing the things that make you feel like yourself. When therapy happens in the home, we can work on what actually matters—using your own environment, your own tools, and your own daily rhythm.

It also removes a major barrier: getting to an appointment. For many older adults (and their families), transportation, fatigue, pain, and scheduling can turn care into another stressor. My goal is to make therapy feel accessible—and supportive—rather than overwhelming.

What my clients have taught me

Some of the best lessons I’ve learned in my career didn’t come from a textbook—they came from the people I’ve had the privilege to work with. My clients have taught me about resilience, humor, patience, and the quiet strength it takes to keep showing up on hard days.

  • Progress isn’t always linear—and that’s okay.

  • Small wins matter: standing a little taller, walking to the mailbox, cooking a simple meal.

  • Independence looks different for everyone—and goals should reflect that.

  • The best plan is the one that fits real life, not the one that looks perfect on paper.

Sometimes we need to take a step back

In rehab—and in life—there are moments when pushing harder isn’t the answer. Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is pause, take a breath, and look at the bigger picture: What matters most right now? What’s getting in the way? What support would make this feel doable?

That mindset is built into how we work. We adjust the plan when your body is tired, when symptoms flare, or when life changes. We focus on sustainable progress—so you can keep moving forward without burning out.

If you or a loved one could benefit from in-home occupational therapy, physical therapy, or speech therapy in Western Massachusetts, we’re here to help. We’ll meet you where you are—and build a plan that supports the life you want to live.
